European cultures always seem surprised by death, mirrored by sayings as: ‘Too young to die’, ‘Cruel death’, ‘Taken before their time’. In The origin of life and death, Blake draws on African traditions to provide new answers and pathways to walk with Death by our sides.

Jan Blake is one of Europe’s leading storytellers, and has been performing worldwide, specialising in stories from Africa and the Caribbean. She has a well-earned reputation for dynamic and generous storytelling. Due to their universal messages and emotional qualities, Blakes’ shows have a remarkable ability to bridge cultural divides and audiences. For this show, she is joined by percussionist John Pradere.
